Well the government never referred to us as Métis, they referred to us as Half Breeds. At one point Métis people were part of the treaties, and they were kicked off because they were half breeds. And they said, they should go and live as whites.

It’s so entrenched. The discrimination… is so entrenched. I don’t know if it will ever go away, but because of this denial, this genocidal attitude of governments, from Sir John A. Macdonald and on, and Ontario in particular, governments have never wanted to recognize us.
